Dell Inspiron 7568 2-in-1 Wifi Issues

One of my business clients has purchased a few of Dell’s Inspiron 7568 2-in-1 laptops. Spec wise, these are pretty nice, with new 6th Gen Intel I7 Processors, a very nice looking display, and a nice low profile case. Short of going with a nice new Macbook, these are probably one of the nicer computers you can buy direct from Best Buy.

However, without fail, the out of the box drivers for this laptop have been horrendous. Wifi works initially, but then stops working all together after a few minutes. And I’ve also had issues with USB being buggy, which is problematic when you need to use USB to install drivers, so that your Wifi works and you can update your drivers/computer easily.

As a glutten for pain, we have purchased three of these laptops and in each, the wifi has worked to connect to a network when first setting up the computer. However, then it kicks on/off a few times, finally reporting that there are no wireless networks available or apparently not even seeing the wifi card, with the Not Connected – No Connections Are Available warning.

It is a bit disconcerting that these laptops are released in this manner, as there is a rather apparent lack of QA for their product. I’m normally a fan of Dell, as the build quality is usually miles above HP laptops/desktops, who at least partly due to money issues, have been using low quality parts and poor build quality for years now.

The 7568 use an Intel PROSet/Wireless 3165 driver too, so you would think it would be pretty solid, but apparently the first version of this just doesn’t work well with Windows 10.

The fix is to visit Dell’s support website, plug in the laptop’s service tag, and download the updated Wifi drivers. After this, you should be able to get online and then run additional window/dell updates to fix other driver issues. Of course, since the wifi is probably not working and there is not an ethernet port, you will need to use a USB to transfer it to the computer.

I would imagine if these were purchased directly from Dell, they may have updated drivers, but given that wifi is broken, it is not a great experience and surely results in some returned products or at least some service calls when purchased from a big box store.
